Both shears are handmade from Japanese 440C stainless steel using two-piece welded construction, with Japanese-style convex edges hardened to 60–61 HRC. That specification means super-sharp, smooth cutting on wet or dry hair — and it makes the set particularly good for slide cutting, where a lesser edge would fold and push.

Ergonomics across the set

Each shear carries an offset handle with a removable finger rest, keeping the hand open and relaxed to head off fatigue in the hand, wrist, and elbow. With the cutting shear offered in 5.5", 6", and a 6" lefty, the Kotaro fits virtually every stylist.

The thinning shear
